FAQ
How much do you charge?
I hate to say “it depends”—but it does. Because your project is unique, I’ll need to talk to you about it to get a firm idea of its scope and what services you need before I quote you a price. Email me here and I’ll get back to you within 24 hours to give you a ballpark figure. After I review the project thoroughly, I’ll give you a firm quote that includes two rounds of revisions and a specific timeline that will work for both of us.
How do I know you can handle my kind of project?
Good writing grabs a reader and compels her to read on. That’s been my job for more than a dozen years. That said, I’ve written extensively on education, parenting issues, and special-needs children. If your project falls outside those areas, let’s talk about it. If my schedule allows, I may be able to write a small part of your piece on spec to gain your confidence.
What does “on spec” mean?
I write a short article or piece of the project. You’re under no obligation or contract, so you pay for the work only if it’s what you’re looking for. If you like what you see, we can draw up a contract for the entire job and go from there.
In my business, deadlines are crucial. How do I know you’re reliable?
A freelancer’s livelihood depends on deadlines. As a production editor, I had two goals: Get it done on budget, and get it done on time. As a freelancer, I’ve had to be my own tough boss. Whether writing a magazine article, composing a fundraising letter, or editing a young-adult novel, I specialize in turning work in on time. Guaranteed.
How do we get started?
Send an e-mail or call me. Be ready to answer lots of questions; the more I know about the project up front, the better I can serve you. There’s never a charge to talk it through or to draw up an estimate. I’ll deliver my quote within 24 hours, based on what you need and how fast you need it. And if your project is beyond my expertise, I’ll try to suggest someone who would be better suited to you. You’re under no obligation.
